DAY 91: In the image and likeness of Barbies and Kens

I realise that since young age I created an admiration for blue eyes, green eyes and long hair. This is definitely related to the toys I had in my childhood, specifically the barbies that had a beauty beyond what I could ever have - I would never have such green eyes, or such a blond hair - and that was frustrating. For some years I actually desired the father of my children to have light eyes so that my children could be in the image and likeness of barbies and kens! Isn't this real brainwahsing? Now older, I can see how there is still an energetic reaction in a mix of admiration, jealousy and comparison each time I see someone who would fit in the image and likeness of barbies and kens.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to separate myself from the women that fit in the image of long blond hair, or long brown hair, light blue or green eyes because I have put such physical characteristics as superior beauty and was unreachable to me because I did not have light blue or green eyes or a long hair.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to believe that women with such physical characteristics had advantages in our society because people would like them easily for their beauty. In this, I realise that there is a point of jealousy and comparison and desire to be easily liked by others without realising that I was the one accepting this starting point of superiority and inferiority based on physical appearance.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to believe that people with light blue and green eyes are nicer people because I associate to the good characters in movies that are sweet and kind, just like in the Disney stories, and to the image of angels in the churches.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to feed the desire to be accepted by others instead of looking at what is here, standing stable within and as my physical body, without comparing to another's body not having any image as a reference.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to create and participate in the separation towards other women based on the belief that they are like angels superior to me and that I am inferior because I have brown eyes and brown hair, without realising that the starting point of judgments and associations related to the physical traits are brainwashing from the media, advertising and movie industries.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to desire my children to have an easy life and to believe that they will be happier if they are physically perfect according to the image of perfection in our society of light eyes and blond hair.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to project into my children my own frustrations, instead of correcting these judgments within me to make sure that I stop my self-interest and the manipulation towards other people's lives.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to place admiration for physical look on top of self-honesty in my relationships with males and with myself.

Self-corrective statements:

When and as I see myself perceiving blond women with light blue or green eyes as specials, mainly because in Portugal is not so common to find these physical traits, I stop and I breathe.

I commit myself to stand equal and one with all the other beings regardless of their physical appearance and I commit myself to stop any emotional attachments related to admiration when seeing someone that corresponds to the image of "perfection". Instead of feeding the mind, I commit myself to see/stand in common sense and beyond the limitation of brainwashing for consumerism, comparison and jealousy.

When and as I see myself accepting and allowing myself to discriminate people according to their physical look based on the belief that blond people with blue/green eyes are luckier, I stop and I breathe. I realise that this is my own projection of inferiority by believing that I was less lucky for not being pretty and that I was rejected by others because I did not have a sweet look like an angel. I realise that I used the physical appearance as an excuse to justify my own beliefs, not allowing me to see that I was creating this experience and self-judgments in my own life.

When and as I see myself associating the long hair and light eyes to the image of angels, I stop and I breathe. I realise that this idea of kindness and peace is not real and that these associations are a limitation because I am not allowing me to see people as equals as who we really are.

When and as I see myself looking at another being from a starting point of comparison, I stop and I breathe. I see, realise and understanding that the comparison pops up automatically as a defense mechanism of the mind to keep me attached to my own beliefs. Therefore, I commit myself to let these ideas go and to get to know the people without projecting my own self-judgments nor previous relationships. I realise that in order for me to know the others I must first get to know me, in self-honesty, clear from ideas, beliefs, judgments, images and memories. I commit myself to support me in being aware of my own thoughts when I am interacting with another being, responsible for stopping the patterns of thoughts/comparisons and I commit myself to forgive each and every thought that pops up in my mind.

I realise that the preference for specific physical characteristics come from the images that I saw on TV, in movies and in magazines that I associated to perfection, however I realise that once again this society found ways to make profit out of such associations to manipulate people to buy certain products such as barbies and products that are promoted by certain images. I commit myself to stop the cycle of image-manipulation, comparison, self-judgment and judgment of others within me by supporting me in stopping the thoughts and any energetic attachment and association to the differentiation of the physical look. Finally, I realise that it is ridiculous that we compare our physical bodies which have unique characteristics when what we can do it to is to change/correct ourselves through learning with each others, communicating with each and helping each other.

DAY 82 - The Fear of not Making It

One of the points that arose in my mind following Bernard's death was that this Process is "too big" for me and I cannot make it, because I associate death to a punishment and that dying is a form of a "time out" of Life. It is fascinating and scary at the same time to see how the mind tries to justify events that I don't understand/not yet aware of, and that is why imagination pops up: because I don't have a reference and I believe that I "need to know" in order to Live.

Well, this knowledge is a distraction and an entertainment. Instead of feeding the imagination, I can/must start with the thoughts that are here manifested at the surface, so today on my post I will walk the idea that this process is "too big" for me and the associations I have created towards death.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to believe that Bernard's death must be justified so that in my mind I create a protection mechanism to avoid looking at the point that Bernard was walking, as I fear to have the same sudden death.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to perceive death as a punishment of God for not living my "mission" or whatever ideas I have of what I should be doing.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to believe and think that I am not protected by Bernard's common sense anymore and to believe that without Bernard I cannot take decisions for myself.

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to think that my heart will stop if I go through intensive points wihtin me instead of stopping comparing myself to Bernard and stop justifying the resistance of the mind of continue walking my points in detail until I am fully clear within me.

When and as I see myself comparing myself and my process to other people's process, I stop and I breathe.

When and as I see myself participating in the resistance to walk a specific point manifested in the excuses of the mind, I stop and I breathe. I commit myself to  not to give in into the entertainment of excuses/fears of the mind and to focus on the patterns that is manifested in my thoughts.

When and as I see myself fear to speak about Bernard's death and noticing any energetic movements of anciety, regret, fear of the future, I stop and I breahte. I realised that this is a point that I must accept and let it go, undonditionally witihnhin and as the responsability of walking my physical stability as Life (no thoughts) and walking my process in order to recreate my own real stability.

When and as I see myself participating in the idea/imagination of being attacked by another being because I am not longer protected by Bernard, I stop and I breathe. I realise that this is a projection of security separated from myself. I realise that I haven't yet given myself this opportunity to deal with the fear, understand it and transcend it.

Within this, I commit myself to take responsibility for the fear of being alone to be sure that I trust myself in every way and to be certain that the "protection shield" of the mind is not real - I realise that these fears have been around with or without Bernard's presence and that only I can give this gift of Life to me.

I therefore realise that walking the process within and as me is the greatest support and independence I can give to myself.

When and as I see myself thinking that my world will fall over after this event, I stop and I breathe. I realise that my stance in Self-Honesty must be absolute in every moment of breath. Therefore, I understand that I am helping myself by writing on this point, by facing my fears, by applying Self-Forgiveness on the thoughts that pop-up and in committing myself to Walk until I am eternally Stable as Life Here.

Note: Some of the points are not shared on my blog as these are points are solely regarding my own memories and experiences. The patterns are explained and therefore anyone can apply these points to themselves and help oneself to walk his own memories/experiences in order to understand the patterns and correct one's acceptances/allowances.

Day 69: How was I able to hear the Desteni message?

Desteni's message is about living the words. That, for me, was and still is fascinating.
The first time I came across someone applying the tools of self-honesty, sharing self-forgiveness and actually walking the process was three years ago. By that time, my school friend Joao was giving his first steps in his process and I was amazed by what he was saying - In fact, I listened to him because I wanted to become like him - self-trust, self-honesty, consistency and actions based on common sense. In the beginning I did not know that a group of people around the world were already establishing a foundation to share such principles...
One evening, Joao and I were at a bar when he wrote on a paper the following:

I didn't understand the meaning of it but I got interested in the mystery. One and Equal, he said. Everything that exists, all that is here; everything exists in Oneness and Equality.
These words resonated with me. I didn't think of any spiritual ideas - for me I could apply such principles in international relations and politics, my core studies. Humanity as One Unity in peace - I was actually starting my last year at University and was focusing myself on the North-South interdependency and inequalities.
Joao's actions and words during that summer were definitely reflecting that it is possible to change. No matter what the past has been, Here was/is the moment. I was starting to realise the simplicity of it and at the same time wanting to know more about all of it. I could see how the patterns of the human mind were manifested in politics at a global level: the bi-polarisation of the world, wars of power, superiority and inferiority, the divide-and-conquer theories, the invisible hand on the world economy...
Inside myself I knew there was something deeper and I guess everyone reflects upon it at some point in Life - Where do we come from? Who am I? Who's this body in front of the mirror? What are we doing Here? Where will I go after I die? Why am I thinking of dying if I am here alive? Where did my childhood dreams go? Why do I think in a certain way and other people differently? Why can’t I take decisions? Why do people look at me? ...
Since young age, I enjoyed psychology and the supernatural stories in films. I remember imagining a parallel reality and asking about déjà vus to my science teacher. I started writing a movie script based on this story and in high-school I enrolled in a psychology module. I was curious about how our conscious, subconscious and unconscious minds work, why people have certain addictions, behaviours and disorders such as autism and what are these manifestations saying about us. Actually, one does not need to study psychology to fully understand what Desteni explains about the mind and who we are... Everything presented by Desteni in interviews and through the portal is about us, human beings, and all that which we have in common.
So when I heard the videos about people’s childhood, suppressions, the memory, the system designs, the manifestation of cancer and the patterns of the mind, I was already opened to understand it better. I did not understand what they were saying about the white light, but the main message was definitely something I should listen to. Behind this curiosity was my willingness to help people and to share with them these alternative views, since it was supportive for me already.
The information has been there since 2007 - What was I doing by then?! I was getting drunk at parties, while people on the other side of the world were discovering themselves in self-honesty, writing, investigating and transcending limitations of the mind. We are all very close to hear what people from Desteni share, but at the same we allow ourselves to get distracted from ourselves by the entertainment in today's society.

It is important to mention that religion had always been a strong component in my thoughts – curiously, only recently I realised how strong it was! I grew up in a catholic family and never considered changing the habit. However, I had been very confused in my mind for a couple of years and I remember becoming stressed when praying. There was a constant fear of making mistakes and of being punished. It was like a parallel world inside my mind - I was projecting myself into the future and wanting to control everything around me to make sure I would survive in this world - this fear kept me away from changing and searching for new perspectives. The idea of being protected by Jesus and God was a comfort. What if things are completely different? What will I do with all the knowledge and information I have accumulated about my belief? I was aware that religion was a comfort but I never considered that such feeling was not real. The need to hold onto something, whether an idea or a book, was based on the fear of losing myself (as memories, ideas, personality).
The accumulation of guilt, of fear and of regret within me was a heavy weight that I was holding myself onto. I was the one limiting myself and believing that I would always be like this - I was believing that this is "me". - How limiting can this be!? I was the one creating a prison in my mind and I was allowing myself to accept myself as that prison! The belief itself was also part of the game in my mind. I was creating my own belief and justifying it as the only way I could survive. Such self-manipulation and self-sabotage is the foundation of religion. Not so much the message share by Jesus but rather an interpretation of it to justify our existence thus far.
One day I realised that such inner conflict was doing more harm than good so I stopped praying. I stopped believing. And I was alright. This happened when I re-started writing. I was now opening points within myself that had been kept inside for too long. Joao and people on the Desteni Forum were helping me by listening, writing to me and directing me towards a way out: self-honesty and self-responsibility. Writing Self-Forgiveness on a daily basis became as essential moment for me. The fact that I stopped hiding myself from me allowed me to deal with my own self.

Since I was no longer attached to Christianity, I decided to study Cultural Relations and International Politics as part of my last year at University, focused on Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist societies. The main message shared by all these religions of self-awareness and of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" was clearly very similar to Christianity. On the other hand, the inequality and abuse was also accepted as "holy"! I could associate the influence of the human mind explained in Desteni's materials - all societies are in fact a manifestation of what we, human beings, allow ourselves to become. The consequences of our own allowances are creating the mess in this world. In essence, corrupt human beings will corrupt everything they touch. Societies are a reflection of human beings as a whole. Nothing will change unless we take self-responsibility for what we accept and create in this world. This world is real. Beliefs aren't. If we know that we are all One, why do we accept separation, inequality, war and abuse?

The more I was reading from Desteni, the more I realised that politics and international relations are the external projection of individual patterns within each one of us. Can you see how internal wars and bipolar minds are manifested in History? Hidden agendas and secret diplomacies based on personal fears, childhood distrust, patterns of inferiority, past mistakes, beliefs, self-judgements and egocentrism. In politics, human life is completely disregarded and the whole set is a game without any kind of respect for mankind. As human beings we don’t really esteem ourselves and we are not educated to do so. Quite the contrary, our self-expression is suppressed and principles are replaced by competition. Forget the countries and the borders -- we are our own enemies. The human mind has the capacity to trap oneself with internal ghosts, persecutory delusions and all different kinds of paranoia. Now we understand why there's no peace to be remembered in this world: Human beings have never been in peace with themselves.

By looking at other people's experiences in the world (including in my family) I easily understood that if I didn't change myself I knew how I would end up - as regret, as fear of the future, as illusion, as a believer, as inactive,  as attached to ideas, as failed relationships, as sick of Life.

So I decided to dedicate the rest of my life to self-perfection – Here, on Earth, for real. By that time, with 22 years of experience in this world, I realised that I don't have choice other than to take a different direction. I don't know exactly the day I took this decision within me because there is no such thing as "the moment that I will be ready ".  It was and still is a process.

Through my participation on the Forum I understood things within me, in my past, in my relationships with my family and ex-boyfriends. I was amazed with people dedicated in perfecting themselves and supporting one another as equals in the process of re-birthing from the physical. When Joao first told me about the Desteni I Process course, I was hesitating since I thought it to be just another self-motivation course with beautiful ideas that only exist in movies. But when I read the course plan, I was so pleased to see that I was going to study something new about the human’s Life, including the patterns of the mind, resonance alignment, the origin of thinking, our relationship with others, mind constructs, memories and tools to correct oneself in the moment.

There are still many things that I am learning. I was and still am astounded by the depth of the message and its universality - it is applied to all sectors of society, of Life and of existence. I can see myself in all interviews and videos, as well as in blogs from Destonians. It helped me to see the big picture and to put the dots together: self is Here, everything that matters is made of the same matter.

My political approach changed. I must put myself in another’s shoes and see that inequality is not the heritage I want to pass on. I am responsible for this moment in time, for each decision I make regardless of the scale of it. It doesn’t matter if I am deciding for two people or for a whole country: any decision must be the best for all. Otherwise it is not a decision, it is a deception. I must be able to let go of all the ideas that I have created of a perfect future – such brainwashing is a limitation based on images of the perfect professional, the perfect lifestyle, the perfect diplomat, the perfect mother or the perfect teacher - self-limitations based on experiences and movies I watched. Such dreams are nightmares completely disconnected from reality. Knowledge and information require to be applied into practical answers, here and now, and that’s what a career should be made of.
Within my process I see the effectiveness of self-forgiveness and, if we want to change international relations for the best of all, the same must be applied accordingly:

I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to participate in this world as the ego, as the need to be superior and to prove myself to others. I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to believe to be inferior to anyone else. I forgive myself for having accepted and allowed myself to think that I deserve more than anyone else and by this I realise that I am one and equal with everyone.  (Excerpts from the article Self-forgiveness and international Relations)

Let’s imagine that everyone become self-honest! How many systems would/will change if we no longer accept abuse inside-outside?  Let's look at the economic system: this one is a good example of how consumed human beings are by separation, greed and perceptions of power. In the end, such mind possessions are costing people's lives every day.
So when I read about the Equal Money System I completely got into it. I was studying the problems at University and never heard a Professor suggesting solutions! This was the best I ever heard. After coming across the directiveness and consistency in Desteni's proposed solution, I realised how blind I was towards the money system.
By putting myself in other people's shoes, I see that I do not want injustices to happen to me or to my family (Aren’t' we all one big family?). The economic injustice has to stop.
From my experience working in charities and feeling good about helping others, I did not understand how people could be greedy and why poverty existed in the world. I just did not want to see that greed was also within me, manifested in competition at school, towards my sisters, in sports, etc. ... The same pattern was creating poverty in the world. I was responsible for such acceptance. The economic system is the perfect reflection of how corrupt human beings can become. The worst blind is the one that doesn't want to see ... Interestingly, I had the same blindness towards religion, in accepting things the way they are told without questioning. Apparently, it is easier to do so, but the price we are already paying is too high. We must take a stand and be responsible for it.

Even though one might have resistances when listening to Desteni's videos in the beginning, the point is to put the message into practice. I clearly see the benefits of walking in self-awareness in my process; once I realise certain patterns, it is impossible to ignore it. I am now able to stop, breathe and take direction. By seeing in others that it is possible to change, I have no choice than to become that change too!
If I had never come across Desteni I would probably believe that things would naturally (with God's help) improve and that my children would bring hope to the world. Now I see that there are no miracles and no heroes. We are all self-creators of this reality and responsible for creating Heaven on Earth.
If the patterns of the mind are manifested at an individual level, the sum of its parts reflect the international scene - now we know where conflict, world wars and violence starts, thus we are able to stop it within each one of us.
I definitely suggest everyone to read and hear what Destonians have to say. It is amazing how people's experiences are so similar across cultures and countries. One will see the benefits of this message in one's own life - we are all supporting each other to support oneself. When I met Destonians for the first time I saw that a better world is totally possible: people sharing the same house (planet) in self-support, without wanting to appreciate neither competing with each other. Each one is in the process of becoming one’s self-example thus creating a better version of humanity. Any decision that would come out of this would definitely be for the best of all.

As I looked at everyday's news on issues that affect the world, I soon realised that something was not alright in the way we think, perceive life and act. I see that Desteni answers many questions based on deep investigation and practical analysis, combining the study of the mind, Self-Forgiveness, common sense and solutions for History’s/human’s mistakes. All I/we have to do is to become the solution and stop existing as the problem.

Day 66: Self-religion of the ego, memory and holy-interest

The trinity is complete: the blidness of the ego in the prison called memory, all in the name of a holy-interest.
The religion of self is a room of mirrors where rightousness binds one's boundaries. Man-made boundaries... Manifested in the entities called countries separated based on beliefs, ideas, notions of security, language and fear towards one another.
Humans in a constant time-loop, found in images and lost in expectations, enslaved in the script that has never changed. Our memories are covered by the perception that somewhere in the past things were alright... Feeling guity for changing and leaving years behind. The fear of losing the years that one bought throughout time.

The blindness towards equality is the manifested pollution in the air... Too much smoke in the air. Too much bulshit... Too many empty words for the sake of survival.
One thing that human beings rarely do is to forgive themselves. Curiously, the ego-religion (or a religion towards a private god), people pray to be forgiven, to be accepted and be recognised for the sacrifices one makes. Such delusional altruism never worked otherwise there would be no poverty, starvation, sex-slavery, prostitution, famine, war, violence, domestic-violence, abuse etc.

How holy is our belief? Is it worth to stay on the same train track that goes in circles?
How special is your relationship with Your god? Is it special at all?
Why don't we listen to each other instead?
Can you see your neighbour? D o you know your neighbour? Why would you meed your neighbour in first place?
Does the idea of a golden heaven justify the dark suffering created for real on Earth?

All beliefs define a line in the physical world that did not exist. Separation is man-made.

Until when will we avoid facing that which we have become?

Self-interest is a principle of survival. Survival comes from the money systems . The money systems are man-made.
Human beings forgot that survival was a temporary transition and we completely got used to it, based on the MEMORY and the holy-hope that good days will come, without moving a finger. Remember, the solution is also man-made.

Self-religion is a workaround to Life - There's no need for such illusion! We are indeed HERE sharing this planet, sharing this present moment, now, while you read these words and I share myself with you. Let's stop and Breathe.

Realise that self-religion is a cave without living conditions - Have we lost the Life that exist within us?

Breathe in, breath out. You're alive. This is what matters. This is our common matter.

That is the Self-Honesty that we need.
To be humble to recognise that we are all responsible for accepting the mess manifested in this world. Each single human being.  Learn to forgive yourself and start again. We must RELY-ON-Ourselves.

Day 56: We are made to last. The current system is not.

When are we going to create things that last for as long as our bodies do? Today’s consumer society is literally destroying us, inside-outside. It is completely against who we really are, as beings that care for Life. This has been our creation, fellow god...
The system is against ourselves because we are against each other, thus against ourselves.
Based on these notions, people who design, produce and sell products do not care about it at all because people are simply busy on surviving, just like you and me. Surviving is a must in this current economic system and we have no choice.

You may have all the good intentions in the world but the product your are selling is just as fragile as the system itself.

There are no warranties for a life time.

Money has a central role in this game. Interestingly, products of quality are away more expensive than the ones of fragile materials. But why on earth are we creating such products in first place? Isn’t it ridiculous?

If we have the best materials, why don’t we use it to produce that which is essential... And please do not allow your brain to be washed with ideas like “there isn’t enough for everyone”. You are the one that must be considered, everyone is. If we can build millions of useless stuff every day, of course we can create enough articles that will last in time for everyone who’s alive and for all the future beings that will be born.

When we buy a product we are literally buying the time we will use it, not the time we want it to last. Well, on average it will work the time that the warranty covers it. This is such a joke... Not to mention the waste of the excessive production of objects that are simple designed to make profit. We are suffocating ourselves and the air we ALL breathe. Oh dear gods, if we know that certain things harm us, why are we still producing it? Are we that dumb?

But wait a sec! Our bodies are made to last. Feel the strength of your bones! Embrace yourself! You feed yourself because you want to last, you want to take care of your body and feel well. SO WHY ARE WE ACCEPTING A SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT LIFE?
This is self-corruption.

The good news is that this system was not made to last either.
Make sure you stand up.

Day 54: Tsetse fly - Can a fly be God?

Tsetse fly. American Museum of Natural History. Foto: Tam Nguyen.
Tsetse fly is determining the destiny of as many as 70,000 people affected annually by the African sleeping sickness.

African trypanosomiasis, commonly called sleeping sickness, is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected tsetse fly, a grey-brown insect the size of a honey bee. The course of the disease in animals is similar to the course of sleeping sickness in humans. Following entry into a human host, the parasitic protozoa - called trypanosomes - multiply in the blood stream and lymph glands.
There are two distinct forms of sleeping sickness: in central and West Africa (in the central and western regions of Africa in forests and areas of heavy vegetation by rivers and waterholes) the tsetse fly carries the gambiense strain, and in southern and east Africa (in woodland and savannah areas) it transmits the rhodesiense trypanosome.
Rhodesiense causes an acute infection of the brain that emerges after a few weeks and is easier to detect. Gambiense can infect a person for months, or years, without symptoms while parasites multiply in the bloodstream and lymphatic system.

Despite various drastic efforts over the past 100 years to eradicate the tsetse fly, most of the time it has recovered. In some regions of the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo, in central Africa, sleeping sickness is killing more people than any other communicable disease, including HIV/Aids, says the World Health Organization.
In 2002, the deputy director of the Vienna based joint FAO/IAEA Division of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture claimed that this disease "is a root of poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, a devastating problem that has been allowed to fester because there was a perception it could not be solved, and because it is a problem of the rural poor." Curiously, the tsetse infests 37 sub-Saharan African countries -- 32 of them among the 42 most Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPCs) in the world. So the root of the problem seems to be poverty itself. We are in fact participating in a cycle of poverty-economic-apathy instead of dedicating financial investment and human resources to eliminate poverty once and for all.

A disease which had been virtually eliminated from Africa during the 1960s, has come back as a major threat to public health. Major pharmaceutical companies and US foundations are committing funds to assist World Health Organization in combating sleeping sickness.

The current sleeping sickness epidemic in Africa began in the mid-1970s, WHO says. Systematic screening treatment between 1940 and 1960 resulted in the number of cases of sleeping sickness declining to almost zero.

Patients are seen in a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2006 (AFP/, Jose Cendon)
Sleeping sickness could threaten tens of millions more people as the tsetse fly which transmits the disease spreads to southern Africa as a result of global warming (AFP)
Two days ago, a new study published on the Journal of the Royal Society Interface alerts for climate change to widen sleeping sickness risk to southern Africa. The scientists base the estimate on how the tsetse and the Trypanosoma parasite it carries are likely to respond to rising temperatures in coming decades. By 2090, an additional 40 to 77 million people could be at risk of exposure to the disease, the study concludes. Currently 75 million people live within its range.

Tsetse free zones: successful cases

In 1997 the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar was declared free of the tsetse after conventional methods reduced its numbers and the release of hundreds of thousands of infertile male flies into the wild -- sterilized using a nuclear technology -- clinched its success.
In Burkina Faso in 2001, the Organization of African Unity inaugurated the Pan African Tsetse and Trypanosomosis Eradication Campaign (PATTEC), based on the successful Zanzibar program. The  Regional Coordinator of PATTEC condirmed that it was no accident that the concentration of much of the world's most acute poverty is in regions of sub-Saharan Africa infested with it. "But Zanzibar was the breakthrough. Now we know how to control it." Since the program to control and eradicate the tsetse began, milk production has tripled, local beef production has doubled and the number of farmers who fertilize crops with manure has multiplied five fold. Fears that tsetse elimination would have a harmful environmental impact on the island's biodiversity have been unfounded.

Campaign to Eliminate Tsetse Fly

In 2002 a campaign to control the deadly tsetse fly in Africa was launched by the Organization of African Unity (OAU). The key was said to be political perseverance by Africa and securing financial support. At that time PATTEC was owing a major debt thanks to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has fostered its development and encouraged the use of the sterile insect technique (SIT), in combination with applying insecticide to the backs of cattle and setting insecticide impregnated traps to reduce the tsetse population, in the process of creating tsetse free zones.

Global BIG solution at last

As part of the Millennium Development Goals, the world is committed to halving the number of undernourished people by 2015 "but without addressing the root causes of low agricultural productivity all other efforts will fail."said the Regional Coordinator of PATTEC almost ten years ago...

Poverty creates the conditions for the establishment of infected flies. As a consequence, much of Africa's best land (particularly in river valleys and moist areas, where the potential for mixed farming is good) lies uncultivated, while tsetse free areas face collapse from overuse by humans -- the cycle of poverty seems endless. Until when are we going to accept such destiny? Is it out of our reach? Can we fly higher in our thought and focus on a global economic solution in the name of Life for every being on this planet?

There's a riddle in Africa that asks how you eat an elephant -- and the answer is in small pieces. The first BIG step for humanity at this moment is the Basic Income Grant in order to establish an equal level of dignity, opening the way for the Equal Money System which will definitely support Life for All unconditionally.

Notes

When they cross the blood-brain barrier and invade the central nervous system, there are neurological changes that are often irreversible, particularly for children who are often the most vulnerable to the disease.
Treatment at this stage must follow the same path and is radical: Melarsoprol, an arsenic and glycol compound, may cause up to ten percent fatalities; Eflornithine, a modern alternative, requires a strict and complex regimen of treatment that often makes it unusable.

Symptoms

  • In West African trypanosomiasis (Trypanosoma brucei gambiense), symptoms can take months or years to appear. They include fever, rash, swelling around the eyes and hands, severe headaches, extreme fatigue, swollen lymph nodes, and aching muscles and joints. If the disease is not treated at this stage, it attacks the central nervous system, producing progressive confusion, slurred speech, personality changes, seizures and difficulty in walking and talking. Symptoms progress and lead to death if left untreated.

  • In East African trypanosomiasis (Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense), symptoms occur 1 to 4 weeks after exposure and are the same as those listed above for the West African variety of trypanosomiasis.

Prevention and Recommendations

There is no vaccine for the prevention of African trypanosomiasis.

Protective clothing:
  • Wear thick clothing that reduces the amount of exposed skin, such as heavy long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks and shoes.
  • Avoid wearing bright or dark-coloured clothing as these colours attract tsetse flies.
Screens and bed nets:
  • Sleep inside screened areas, under a net or in an air-conditioned room.
  • Use bed nets that are rectangular in size, impregnated with permethrin every 6 months and tucked tightly under the mattress before dusk
Other measures:
  • Avoid riding in the back of open vehicles as tsetse flies are attracted to dust churned up by moving vehicles or animal herds.
  • Check the inside of all vehicles for tsetse flies before getting in.
  • Stay away from bushy areas especially during the heat of the day. Tsetse flies rest in bushes during high heat periods and can bite if disturbed.
  • Insect repellent has not been proven to prevent tsetse fly bites.

Day 50: And God created Fridays…

“Thanks God is Friday” hip hip hurrey, many say.
The paranormal excitement is something fascinating. Friday’s ritual of excitement, for a sudden everything seems to make sense. It doesn’t matter if there’s a war somewhere on the planet a, for as long as God gives us the Free-Day, everything is fine.

Are people aware of each moment lived on a Friday, or is our mind somewhere in the imaginary land of plans for the weekend? But wait a second, last week the same happened...

Monday came. Why did God create Mondays? How unequal is that... The polarity of positive and negative lived by many. An illusion on which we are participating since at least 1760 BC - the earliest records of slavery.
Weekends are some sort of prize for the work one does over the five working days. Going through pain over the week. And the weekend will come over and over again. And Friday will come over and over again... And we continue on this rat wheel of the human race.
We know we are abusing our own bodies and that diseases are created by our ourselves, but still we will stay in the loop awaiting for some miracle (or at least for “that” party...)

Shall we ask ourselves; If it wasn’t God would we have weekends? But WHY do we need weekends in first place? Why are we still buying a system that is clearly against Life and against ourselves as humans and animals and plants?

Aren’t we able to STOP and start again; aren’t we able to let go of the ball and chain pushing us down? Aren’t we actually creating such weight to our own selves...?
Despite the emotional sensation based on expectations that are not even real, Friday will have no long-term effect whatsoever.
Is this pessimistic? Is this realistic? This is common sense.
I would say we better wake up from this nightmare of illusion and consider that WE CAN re-create the calendar, we CAN guarantee that our children won’t go through this pain again; that one day everyone will do that which they really enjoy doing. The real free-day will come when money will not be an issue.
