Most of the Londoners knew Brian, the activist man who has been living in a tent in front of the British Parliament over the last 10 years.
Brian set up camp outside the UK parliament in 2001 to protest against British and US foreign policy and became a street hero, sleeping next to Churchill and Mandella's statues. Earlier this year, the camp became the Democracy Village in the gardens in front of the parliament, later removed by the police.
On Sunday June 19, Brian died while sleeping. He was 62.
As one can read on the newspaper, Brian endured threats, violence and abuse for the duration of his protest. "I want to go back to my own kids and look them in the face again," he wrote in 2002, "knowing that I've done all I can to try and save the children of Iraq and other countries who are dying because of my government's unjust, amoral, fear- and money-driven policies".
I ask myself - is this the best way to reach the policies that one wants to change? Will this have any affect whatsoever in the system itself? No. A big stance implies big steps within the system. Brian started his journey to the Parliament opening the way for many people to get involved in the protests. But now it is time to keep walking. To go ahead. The high ceilings of the Parliament imply big stances and this is the challenge of the next generations. There's no point in blaming politicians - it is far more effective if people stand up in politics within the system and become part of its change.
Would Brian support an Equal Money System knowing that this is the most viable solution for the current human needs? The answer is within us who live now. One man, one vote. Each one has a say as long as there's self-will. But no one walk with an empty stomach. Are we going to walk for an Equal Money System or are we going to stop at the Parliament's door?
Going further brings the fear of the unknown. But what we have known thus far isn't definitely the best we, as Humanity, can achieve...
"These children and people of other countries are every bit as valuable and worthy of love as my precious wife and children." said Brian.
Indeed, EVERYONE is worthy and valuable. So let's all stand up for equal access to Life: standing up at home, at work and in everything we do for the best of everyone around us, and consequently around the world.
