Many of us have possibly heard the saying that "if it wasn't capitalism there would be no technological evolution”. This time, I won’t let this point go by without exploring such starting point and looking at the consequences of an illusionary perception of evolution in a competition-driven society.
On my previous blog post I already exposed the patterns of the mind that still persist regardless of technological achievements. One simply needs to look at History with analytical eyes to understand the common patterns in different scenarios.
In fact, it reminds me the movie scenarios that apparently seem to be extremely solid on the screen but in fact are made of fragile materials that will be removed in time to be replaced with the latest blockbuster.
Interestingly enough, many people can’t even consider how technological evolution could exist without capitalism. Can’t this already tell how limited we have become? Does the speed of the current economic system reflect any substantial change in the way human beings perceive the world and act?
If you haven’t yet, I suggest starting questioning ourselves:
- Why are certain products being highly developed and still so many diseases without cure?
- Why is it “easier” to expand space shuttle programmes than to develop technology to erase poverty on a global scale?
- What motivates a company/brand/scientific lab to develop an investigation? In other words, why is there investment in first place?
- Does competition imply perfectionism?
The urgency is created through competition and this is the cancer of our society.
By accepting that evolution depends on capitalism, one is actually saying that nothing can be created in this world if there isn’t greed, competition and the win-lose polarity. But is this true?
Let’s keep it simple: do people require to be paid to have the motivation to wash themselves? No, because most understand it is necessary to be done as a matter of hygiene and also because they enjoy doing it! So here we have an example of an action that is based on understanding and that is not done out of profit, because it’s part of ‘taking care of oneself’.*
Putting this into a global perspective, technology can certainly be developed having the well-being of everyone as its leitmotiv. In other words, we will never know if something else could work if we won’t change our starting point.
Is competition a blessing or a disease? From what I have seen it is blindness. Human beings cannot see. It is proven that we cannot see what life can be. Competition is like a fear that drives all movement and that is mistaken to be Life.
People move themselves motivated by competition. But is that taking direction? No. That is to be a robot. Human beings became organic robots with emotional upside-downs. Based on such acceptance, the market was born. So what kind of creators have we become? Beings driven by the mind and fear. Now we understand the extent deception accumulated throughout time.
How can we accept such human fate? It all comes to the survival pattern that human beings have been enslaved since ever. Do we really think that people like to develop games of violence? Are we mad? Computer, scientists and developers are also dependent on their skills to generate an income and survive, no matter what. Let me tell you that the times may have changed, but the formula has been always the same in order to give the same result: profit.
So does this system support integrity? No. Is this the system that we, humans, what to be represented by? I am sure we were not born to destroy. Man is supposed to be kind...
Here is another interesting point: the need for money. This is not a natural need, is it? Human beings need to eat, need to drink water but do we require money? We decided so. This man-made invention was doomed to fail since the beginning by not considering everyone. But money can definitely be used for good if we change the rules of the game. Shall we finally apply our 1.36kg of brain into Research & Development of new socio-economic solutions as well?
I recommend everyone to start questioning more; to stop accepting things for the sake of a perceived comfort of thought. The consequences are already affecting all of us, directly or indirectly, as humanity.
And finally the BIG questions ahead can arise: How will human beings evolve if the structural starting point considers Life as a human right for everyone? How much abuse would be avoided if another way of Life was in place? That will be a real evolution. It is already here but are we willing to see it?
